Rainbow Reflector Winter 2000

Homestead Happenings

By Larry Reinhold

We had our first calf born at about 11:00 last night. It was good to see it attempting to stand up with those wobbly legs supporting that tail end. Soon he was up on all four. Since we had received some new snow during the evening and it still falling with a northwest wind blowing, I picked up the calf and carried it to the barn. Mama cow was glad to join him. We only have about a half dozen cows that will calve early like this. The main bunch starts in March. Life is so precious.

Rainbow Bible Ranch had its Annual Board Meeting on the twentieth of January, and I am happy to report that God has blessed and is continuing to do so. We were able to complete some projects last year such as graveling the driveway from the main road. With the extra moisture that we have been receiving over the last several years, that maintenance project was really needed. We look forward to adding and completing some more needed projects this spring as well. We will have a new dock in the swimming hole before summer. We have been able to upgrade some of our kitchen equipment and utensils. The Cow Camp will get a few more finishing touches. There will be a new foosball table in the main hall. The Lord has allowed us to better our horse tack as well as continue to make needed repair on the riding arena. We are working on some projects that will promote better safety and organization. The board has given the go-ahead to repair the floor in the gym. That will be quite costly. Pray with us in that situation. We are in the market for some nice stackable chairs. Yesterday, we were outbid on some that sure would have filled the bill. Our current chairs are some we bought 20 years ago at a school auction. They have worked but they take a lot of room to store and some are just on their last “three” legs.

We are preparing to start up our Legacy III Training on February 19. This program worked very well in that our staff proved to be better prepared for their time at camp. Many topics were covered and I heard from several of them how their training at RBR helped them when they were away from the Ranch, as well. Please pray for Chris especially in his scheduling of the classes and instructors.

Finally, for some time we have seen the need for improvement in structure of our kitchen. Grandma, Chris and Lana have come up with some good reasons that need consideration. We also have been short of some “quiet” space for counseling times and a need for an office is very real. That brings us to the real possibility of adding on to the existing camp building. We are prioritizing needs and are toying with different aspects of construction. Currently we do not have it within our budget to proceed, but truthfully are praying that God would give us the directive to proceed in His way.
