Rainbow Reflector Holiday 2001

The Roundup

By Larry Reinhold

The Harvest is a super video that God has used at Rainbow for the last four years. It is the story of the Klein family in North Dakota. It has proven to touch many lives and influence many for Christ and encourage many in the importance of missions.

We have had the privilege of meeting Chuck Klein. He is Charlie, for all you kids that have seen The Harvest. He is presently serving with Student Venture which is part of Campus Crusade. We recently had the privilege of hearing Chuck speak at the Steer Inc. Missions Conference in Bismarck, ND along with many other challenging messages including Ron Hutchcraft.

The content was consistent throughout the conference. One-half of the world’s population is under the age of twenty-five. Many reports state the positive results of sharing the message of the Gospel with the young. 85 percent of all people who do not accept Jesus Christ by age 18 never will. The hearts of youth are fertile fields. Chuck Klein has spent time in New York following the terrorist attacks and spoke of the willingness of so many young people to listen to the Gospel. This is truly an opportune time to reach out with solid truth.

It drove home the need to be fervent with the ministry of Rainbow. This is no time to “pull our heads into our shells” but rather put ourselves on the line.

Prayer for Children

Amy Carmichael

Father, hear us, we are praying,

Hear the words our hearts are saying.

We are praying for our children.

Keep them from the powers of evil,

From the secret hidden peril,

From the whirlpool that would suck them,

From the treacherous quicksand, pluck them.

From the worldling's hollow gladness,

From the sting of faithless sadness,

Holy Father, save our children.

Through life's troubled waters steer them,

Through life's bitter battle cheer them,

Father, Father, be Thou near them.

Read the language of our longing,

Read the wordless pleadings thronging,

Holy Father, for our children.

And wherever they may bide,

Lead them home at eventide."

Every Wednesday night during the school year, our home is abuzz with excitement. It isn’t even Wednesday evening anymore, it is “Awana Night” and as parents and camp people we couldn’t be more pleased.

Awana is an international, Bible centered youth ministry providing local churches with weekly clubs and programs for preschoolers through high schoolers. Their goal is to reach boys and girls, and their families, with the gospel of Christ and train them to serve Him. The acronym AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Timothy 2:15).

Awana began in 1950 as a youth program at the North Side Gospel Center in Chicago, Illinois. Lance Latham, the church pastor, worked with Art Rorheim to develop a program that would appeal to young people, reach them with the gospel of Christ and train them in the Lord’s work. Other churches heard about the success of the Awana program and asked if they could use it. By 1960, Awana had registered 900 clubs. Today, there are more than 8,000 churches in the United States that have Awana Clubs. There are clubs in all 50 states. Awana can also be found in over 1,900 churches in more than 90 other countries, from Argentina to Zimbabwe, from Iceland to Australia.

There are nine clubs in the Black Hills area and they do a fine job reaffirming what we as a family are teaching as well as partnering with ministries such as Rainbow Bible Ranch. We heartily recommend that you become involved in Awana.

I have enclosed an outline of Phase I & II of Meeting the Need. We believe that these are important tasks to carry out to aid in the well being of campers as well as enhance their stay with us. Our camper fees are not enough to do these improvements since we charge about half the actual cost. God through His people provides the rest. We need your prayers and support in this as we strive to provide a better atmosphere to the many young people and their families. The cost is estimated to be $14,000.00 plus the cost to finish the exterior. This is not a lot of money, however we do not have any in reserve to take on the Phase II projects.

Truthfully contributions have slowed considerably over the last couple of months. We would like to have the money raised by Thanksgiving. Will you trust the Lord with us to that end?

Please join us in our endeavor of MEETING THE NEED. Remember— “To God be the glory, great things He has done.”
