An English prayer from the Fifteenth Century reads:God be in my head, and in my understanding;
God be in my eyes, and in my looking; God be in my mouth, and in my speaking; God be in my heart, and in my thinking; God be at my end, and in my departing.The author of Hebrews in chapter 11 writes, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Jesus stated in the Gospels, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these, I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Following that statement, He took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.
Children are so honest. When their fears overwhelm, they are forced to rely on someone to “fix” them. When all of life is new each day they rely on the word and actions of others. As the English prayer so well states, faith in God is for the whole being in everything. Children demonstrate that. Christ had a special place in His heart for young people, because that is where faith in God springs up so vividly and it is by this example that we all must learn a lesson to what our faith should be as well. Faith cannot partially fill but must overwhelm one’s being.
Jesus said bring the children to Him. We must do nothing to detract them from that route and neither should we shun the need of introducing them to the Savior. Nothing costs more than the loss of a soul.
It is easy to see why Christian camping is such a vital ministry in leading to an overwhelming faith that affects the whole of life.
