“If you limit your actions in life to things that nobody can possibly find fault with, you will not do much."
stated the English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson in the nineteenth century.I have always enjoyed reading and collecting quotes and this one caught my fancy. Simply said, “It is not easy to step into the road of criticism.” We do not enjoy the threat of failure from nay Sayers, and seriously put we do not want to do something blatantly wrong.
As I reflect upon decisions in my life, there have been certain people that have acted as barometers in the directions that I have taken. These people have shared their God given wisdom for which I am thankful. But , I will be truthful, some of my lack of motivation to action at times, has been brought about because someone may find fault with it.
This leads not only to unproductivity, but also paves a way for those who follow us to take their direction from the wrong source. Satan loves this scenario.
It would be difficult to continue discussing this topic without considering the parable of the talents that Jesus told to His disciples. As I recall the poor fellow that lacked the initiative and insight to do something with what was given to him, a sense of despair arises. The question, “What might have been?” is justifiably asked.
Jesus was very stern in His teaching on this issue. We are not given talents, resources and gifts to just bury; for whatever reason.
As a follower of Christ, we will encounter criticism just as Christ did. As a leader, we will continually find someone that will take issue with our leadership. As a member of humanity, some one will often delight in finding fault .
This is why we must take our lead from someone that can see the whole picture. Someone that understands where we are at. Someone that cares where we are going.
As it says in Proverbs, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him and he shall direct your paths.”
With direcition as this, we can proceed in confidence
