Rainbow Reflector
Winter 2003Homestead Happenings
By Larry Reinhold
As I look down that task sheet of things that we need to do as well as things that have been done, one thing stands out. Seasons are changing.
Dad and I discussed the need to vaccinate cows as we are only six weeks away from calving. We must also Bangs vaccinate the heifers in the next week or so.
We are getting quite a number of requests for camp registrations and with the issuing of this Reflector, campers will begin to dream of their stay at the ranch.
We have been staying occupied. Dad is doing better, although he still fights some pain in his knee. Nearly every morning, he is down at the shop climbing up into that John Deere 7810, ready to begin his feeding chores. He so enjoys seeing the livestock and we are glad that he can do that from the comfort of a nice tractor. He tells of his younger days when everything was fed by a team and wagon. They would feed all day, first pitching the hay on and then pitching it off.
Mom still excels at her gift. Very often we are treated to fresh baked cookies or hot cinnamon rolls. She announces many of her visits by saying, “I tried a new recipe and….”
I am afraid the calling and art of homemaking is not what it used to be or should be. Family priorities have changed and children and grandchildren are falling through the cracks. I will grant that it is not just cooking and cleaning, but truly it is many little things that when thrown into the scales, outweighs the gold and precious things that this world has to offer.
The rest of the crew is doing well. Rachel is getting so tall. Molly has energy to spare. Danny is becoming a fine big brother. He went through a little spell of whining. So we challenged him to consider what was coming out of his mouth, a “murmur” or a “happy”. Jesus doesn’t like murmuring or whining, nor do Daddy and Mommy. We are hearing many more “happys” again. Our Caleb is growing like a weed and is a very happy baby. Each day is a reminder God’s blessings.
Lucas has been a huge help. We are grateful for his eagerness. He is currently looking to buy a few more cows and I am sure he will do well with them.
Keep the Morris family in your prayers as they seek the way the Lord would have them go. Chris has been in contact with a couple of different possibilities.
I would covet your prayers for my ongoing strength and health as well. I want to be able to move at the Lord’s command always trusting in Him.
