Myron Roger Compton went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 10, 2025.
Myron was born on December 11, 1942 to Reid and Laura Compton. He grew up on a ranch 80 miles east of Sturgis. He graduated from Tee Pee Creek Country School in the eighth grade, and graduated from Sturgis High School in 1961. Myron ran track in high school and missed his graduation because he was running in the State Track Meet. He belonged to 4-H through his freshman year in college. Following high school, he attended the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, graduating in 1965 with a degree in physics. During his time at Tech he was the editor of the SDSM&T newspaper.
He married Colleen Piehl on June 6, 1965 and they moved to Richland, Washington. Myron coached soccer and loved skiing; in Washington as well as Deer Mountain and Terry Peak in South Dakota. He joined Toastmasters while in Richland, and was very active in Westside Presbyterian Church.
In 1982 they moved to Beulah, ND where Myron worked for Dakota Gasification Company. In his spare-time he enjoyed being a member of the Zap Sportsman’s Club.
Colleen died on December 9, 1991.
Myron married Nadine Anderson on April 6, 2002. The two of them moved to Spearfish after Myron’s retirement in 2007, where they operated a B&B for many years on Crow Peak Bench. They also enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful visits with family. In later years Myron developed Parkinsons. He was a trooper in dealing with the disease.
Myron was a member of North Point Christian Church and he greatly missed attending church due to his Parkinsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Reid and Laura Compton; wife, Colleen; precious granddaughter, Isabella Footh; father-in-law, Calvin Boen; brother-in-law, Arthur Perina.
Myron is survived by his wife, Nadine; son, Paul (Janell) Compton, Minneapolis; daughter, Susan (Ken) Steiner, Rapid City; Nadine’s four children who he thought of his own, Alan Anderson, Sanford, FL, Michele (Rocky) Anderson, Kalispell, MT, Annie (Sevan) Anderson, Eureka, MT, and Maddi Anderson, Overland Park, KS ; grandchildren, Sebastian (Danielle) Footh, Hays, KS, Carmen (Joe) Miele, Missoula, MT, Meredith (Evan) Miele, Bozeman, MT, Calvin Anderson, Olathe, KS, Maegan (Ben) Steiner, Rapid City; brother, Chuck (Myra) Compton, Anderson, IN; brother-in-law, Kevin (Anita) Boen, Fergus Falls, MN; sisters-in-law, Noreen Perina, Gretna, NE, Naomi (Mike) Frantes, Cedar Park, TX, Natalie (Jim) Gregory, Gretna, TX, Kerri (Steve) Black, Kent, WA, Kandace (Doug) Gorsuch, Ramsey, MN, and Kathy (Joe) Paulson, Ramsey, MN; Calvin’s mother, Amanda Halek, Olathe, KS; best friends, Jeff, Susie, Katie and Allie Mondloch, Spearfish, Nicole and Danielle Valentine, Spearfish. He also leaves many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Myron touched many lives with his wisdom and knowledge. He was a man of God and integrity. He will be greatly missed.
