Chrystal Olson Shares Her Heart

It's been a few weeks now since both kids have been home from their respective weeks at Rainbow Bible Ranch. I think it's taken me this long to gather my thoughts on their experiences. It is without question, the highlight of their summer. Words fail me when I think of all this camp has come to mean to our family these past four summers. In June of 2023, we received Chris's diagnosis. That evening we drove kids to camp for the first time. God doesn't do things by chance, there are no coincidences. He placed this camp in the lives of our children for a reason. They have grown spiritually every summer. When I've been worried they would be homesick and miserable, I arrive at camp to tears of sadness that its already over as they hug friends goodbye from across the country. The friendships are real because the conversations are real. They get into the Word and learn and grow together. They talk about things that matter. They accomplish things that matter. They have the absolute best role models to look up to in the staff at Rainbow. When the world tells our teens to act and think worldly, these amazing young adults lead by example how to live for Christ.

Yes, God gave our family this camp because He knew we needed it. When life is hard and ever changing, this camp has been there since the beginning to give them something constant. Something that draws them back to Christ and keeps all of us looking up, not at the chaos around us.

On top of all the growth, they have a ton of FUN!

At Gus's teen camp, he won the poles in the boys division.

At Helen's Legacy II Camp, she placed in the poles, her team placed third in the team penning, first in the double mugging and she made it into the semi-finals in the discussions. (Debates/discussions based off of political and Biblical topics).

I guess this goes without saying, but I hope the Rainbow crew is ready for the Olson teens again! They are already putting their dollars away to save for next summer!

Our Equine Partners...

Our Equine Partners.... That last Friday Nite of the season... With a solemn sense of gratitude the RBR wranglers take their dear friends up the hill to the east and put the camp string out to pasture. There are many partners involved in the work and ministry of Rainbow Bible Ranch... but none compares to that of our beloved horses that give of themselves over and over again to instill values into their young riders throughout the summer. And let me tell you briefly about the summer.... It was windy.... it was record breaking heat.... it was dry... and it took perseverance for all... "man and beast".....but in the end we say "It was worth it". 2026 found us completing 47 seasons of us sharing biblical value in the western tradition of the ranch... and our equine partners came through.... To GOD Be the Glory... Great Things HE continues to do

They Clean Up Pretty Good...

They clean up really good. We so enjoy out Banquet and Talent Program each week. Our 52 young people were so fun this evening. Praising God for each one of them and all my staff. My wranglers and team leaders are over the top... Their commitment is amazing.

The Last Nite...

The Last nite of camp is bittersweet. The guys and gals that attend become more like family. Our crew is as diligent as they come. No spotlights.... not alot of noise.... just real life... and lives impacted by Jesus. Legacy II starts tomorrow.

Meanwhile... What is Happening at Rainbow Bible Ranch

   Camp has been in full swing for around a month now. Sessions have been at capacity. We have had some outstanding youth in attendance. With that said, our staff has been serving at 110%, which is what we aim for when we have campers here at the ranch. However the whole story would be that most of the crew are called upon to perform extra duties due to the reality that we could sure use two more full time members….


    July 13….. Legacy I was a fantastic camp session with 53 kids from as far way as Arizona and Germany. With this camp I speak five to six more times. But our challenge again was calling for extra duty of the crew. One of our guys that is part of our all around crew went to Montana over the Fourth of July for a wedding. On his way back last weekend, be was not feeling well and he checked in at Billings and discovered he had Lyme disease from tick bite that he had when he was home in Montana. We just doubled down and then we were hit with the hot temps. Our rodeo on Saturday was held as the thermometer hit 103 degrees. Sunday, we hit 107 and the forecast is for hundred plus temps along with high fire danger. Our teens register this evening and we have already made plans to change the riding schedule to include before breakfast rides.

    Honestly, my concern is for my family and staff. I pray they remain strong as we have four weeks to go. I pray that they are encouraged and that they realize the blessings and rewards that come with working and sharing the Good News. Their hearts are right. I continually am amazed by the way God works through them. Please pray for them and if God lays some form of encouragement upon your heart to share with the crew… it would certainly be appreciated.

    My friend Jay called on Saturday nite after all the kids went home. We graduated from High School together and then he was part of our staff in the early 1980’s. He continues to support the work here along with so many other faithful partners in the ministry. He also writes amazing letters nearly every month that includes valuable insight and thoughtful words. Our conversation was ending as I said that we had finished our fifth week of camp in our 47th year of ministry. Again, he expressed his gratefulness to the Lord, myself, and the RBR crew. I could not help but express my gratitude to him as well. He may not serve on the front line but his prayers, financial support and words of encouragement are vital to the outreach. The same goes for many of you reading this letter. Even though I may not say it often enough… you are huge in the ongoing ministry of Rainbow Bible Ranch. We are hoping to get caught up and thus be able to send a Rainbow Reflector following the camping season. I strive to keep our website up to date and I stay very active on Facebook. Please watch for updates and photos there.

   In closing, I wish to let you know that our theme for 2026 is “Good News”. The Gospel is presented all the way back to the beginning in the book of Genesis. We start there realizing the sinfulness of mankind. We share from the chapter of Isaiah 53 which is overwhelming prophecy of the Good News. I enjoy sharing the accounts of the Ethiopian and Philip and of Paul and Silas and Phillippian jailer. I share of Nicodemus in John 3. Yes they are just good “old Sunday School stories” that proclaim the Good News. Along with that our Quiet Time and missionary moments provide for opportunity for the Holy Spirit to speak to our campers. And we also have our “family devotions” after breakfast each day where Robin reads a Scripture passage and a timely story to the campers and staff. We do this in the setting of  the ranch where I like to say…. “Where western tradition and biblical values are lived out each day”.

   Thank you for allowing me to share my heart… even though it took nearly two weeks to do so. To God be the Glory… Great things He continues to do.

Long Before...

Long before nations were established, the first institution created by God was family. The Reinhold "fam" spent America's 250th birthday in our "element". Legacy I starts today as we invite over 50 young people into our home. We know the importance of sharing real life in action with kids here at the ranch. And we have to be physically, mentally and spiritually ready. "You see... this world is not my home.... I am just passing through... I am grateful to be an American in this journey on earth... I want America and its citizens to enjoy the blessings that have been bestowed upon us... However, our goal as a family is to be diligent in reaching and impacting youth and their families.... With the Good News of Jesus.... not to build an empire here... but rather contribute to God's Kingdom... thus we seek investments that are eternal.

It Is Nearing Midnight...

It is nearing midnight. I just came in from raking some forage oats that we cut this morning. Earlier we had a great supper of burgers cooked up just right on the grill. Caleb does a fine job over the coals on his grill. Rachel made pasta salad and Robin prepared corn on the cob. It was to be a special evening as it was our final supper with Tomi, our guest for the last month, from Hungary. We had rood beer floats for dessert. This was a special treat, since root beer is hard to find Hungary and yes Tomi really likes root beer.
As if found myself going back and forth in the Northfield, I found myself reflecting about so many things. Yes, this is our week break from camp which allows us to catch up on some ranch chores. My evening was going well and around 10:15 PM, it even got better. My phone rang. I still have a flip phone that I carry only when I need too. Julia was calling. After I said my greetings, she simply said, “Do you see the moon?” I had and I replied as such. She told me how she had seen it over the horizon as she went out a few minutes earlier to lock the chickens in the coop for their safety. She reflected upon the amazing sight that we were now both gazing upon even though I was in the field, two miles away. The moon was nearly blood red. The color was intensified from the smoke and haze from fires in Colorado and Utah. Julia and I talked for another minute or so about the beauty of the evening and then she said, “Good nite… I love you… see you in the morning”
My thoughts continued as I maneuvered the John Deere tractor in the field. I could not help but be impressed with the blessed amazement of what had transpired through the evening. Since so much is being said and done with activities of the 250th birthday of the US of A and all the hoopla that comes with the celebration, I was taken back to the simplicity and to some a "mundane" evening. My day and evening would certainly not be defined as monumental… but that is where many will miss the point of my recollection. Most would not consider the importance of the little things that have impacted myself and my family. The celebrations will end but the day to day life of family must continue. The root beer floats.... the round and round of agriculture and stewardship.... praying together around the table.... the "I love you's" while observing God's creation... the constant of genuine fellowship with the Almighty... and the humility that comes with these experiences that should bring us into the proper perspective on life.

I Love What I Do...

I love what I do.... I love the family I get to do it with... I love the team that helps me get it done.... I love the folks that come and share our lives with... AND I LOVE GOD ALMIGHTY WHO GIVES ME THE STRENGTH TO CONTINUE, WITH PASSION, THE CALL
